By the year 2014 the restaurant and foodservice industry is expected to employ 13.5 million people. This industry is the fastest growing industry in our country and is starving for enthusiastic young people like you. There are no limits to what you can achieve as a restaurant industry professional. The Ohio Restaurant Association Education Foundation (ORAEF), along with the National Restaurant Association, will help you on your journey from the classroom to the career path of your choice!
The Education Foundation is committed to focusing on education, workforce development and retention. The Ohio ProStart program enables Ohio Restaurant Members to attract, develop and retain their workforce while providing a bright future for students.
Many of our ProStart schools compete at state and national events throughout the school year. Several of our ProStart schools have placed in top rankings for both culinary and management ProStart competitions.
As a mentor for the ProStart program, you will play different roles at different times, according to your student employee needs. Mentors help students make the connection between their present performance and their future. Mentors provide overall support for student goals, career competence and character development in the following ways:
Teacher: Instructs students in various areas not limited to job tasks.
Supervisor: Gives direction. Thinks in terms of how students fit into the needs of the organization.
Coach: Provides motivation and information to help students meet performance expectations. Gives ongoing feedback and encouragement.
Counselor: Helps students work through problems or attitudes that affect job performance.
Role Model: Leads by example. Helps students develop effective professional skills and habits.
