Wineries
In his autobiography, Harvest of Joy, Robert Mondavi wrote, “Wine to me is passion. It's family and friends. It's warmth of heart and generosity of spirit. Wine is art. It's culture. It's the essence of civilization and the art of living.”
Those sampling wines at the Columbus Food & Wine Affair Grand Tasting 2009 quickly understood Mondavi’s statement. Wines from around the world were featured, showcasing a variety of textures, flavors, regions and varietals. Vintners and professionals were on hand to share their featured wines, knowledge and stories of their industry. With more than 300 wines to choose from, the novice or expert taster was not disappointed.

Here, proprietor Fred Furth both preserves the nature of the land and honors it by producing wines reflecting its exceptional qualities. The grapes are then hand harvested, parcel by parcel and fermented in small, distinct lots. This meticulous handling of the vines, grapes and finished wine allows the ultimate expression of Chalk Hill's many and varied terroirs. |

Frederick Wildman & Sons, Ltd. Click for Description According to winemaker Frederick Wildman: “Business, and particularly the wine business, should be conducted as to bring pleasure, pride and friendship to those engaged in it. We pledge ourselves to preserving the tradition of fine wine merchants and the heritage that fine wine itself deserves.” Under this philosophy, Wildman celebrated its 65th anniversary in 1999; it celebrated as the third largest importer in the U. S. But with all of its growth, the familiar Wildman logo--created by the Colonel himself and found on each bottle Wildman sells--is still recognized around the country as a symbol of quality. The company has become “the biggest little wine company in America.” |

Hess Collection Winery & Hess Family Estates Click for Description
Two remarkable and pioneering families in our wineries, bring together years of vintner experience in New World wines. In 1978, Donald Hess founded the Hess Collection Winery on Mount Veeder, 2,000 feet above the Napa Valley. A believer in sustainable and biodynamic farming practices, his passion for growing great wine at high altitude culminated in Bodega Colomé, the highest vineyard in the world at 10,200 feet/3,111 meters above sea level in the northern part of the Calchaqui Valley in Argentina.
The founding of Peter Lehmann Wines in the Barossa Valley in 1980 was no less heroic. At a time when grape growers were facing certain bankruptcy—because the promise that their harvested grapes would be bought had been broken—Peter Lehmann stepped in to help his friends. He bought up the grapes and daringly started his own winery, which would later earn him the title of King of the Barossa Valley among those who felt indebted to his boldness.
